World cup in Qatar 2022 is a ctastrophe

We all know that the biggest sporting event in the world will be held in Qatar 2022. The tournament is set to be held during the winter months of 2022 due to the extreme heat in summer times.

It is no surprise that Qatar is not a footballing nation and is not a country famous for outstanding football players. In my opinion, a nation that hosts the World Cup should have some sort of experience with football and need to have a team that would have a chance of qualifying. Anyhow, the absurd thing about the World Cup project is the huge funding going into the projects of building air conditioned venues. Qatar is spending around 500 million US dollars every week to build the stadiums where the games will take place. Forced labour is involved within this project and it definitely breaks moral rules.

This huge project is not sustainable either. Several countries around the world are spending a lot of the governments budget in order to achieve a more sustainable place. However, in Qatar these huge stadiums are being built just for this occasion, and will be left out in the desert once the tournament is over. How is this contributing to the sustainability issue we are facing?

There are many countries capable of hosting the world cup with existing venues and infrastructure. Yet we still think it is good that Qatar is spending illegal money on this extravagant project.

We need to act upon this problem as soon as possible.
